Candle Care Guide
A little care goes a long way: follow these simple tips for a clean, even, 40+ hour burn and a jar you’ll want to reuse.
A FEW QUICK TIPS
Trim the wick to 1cm before lighting
First burn: let the wax melt to the edges (about 4 hours)
Keep burns to 2–4 hours at a time
Place on a heat-safe, level surface, away from drafts, children & pet
Never leave a burning candle unattended
FIRST BURN MATTERS
On your first light, let the wax melt all the way to the edges of the jar: this takes around 4 hours. This sets the “melt memory” and helps prevent tunnelling so you enjoy an even, long-lasting burn.
Soy wax has a memory; a full first melt tells it how to behave on future burns.
TRIM LIKE A PRO | WICK CARE
Before every burn, trim the wick to 1cm. A neat wick:
Reduces mushrooming and soot
Keeps the flame steady
Extends total burn time
Use wick trimmers or clean scissors. If the flame grows too high while burning, safely extinguish, let cool, trim, and relight.
BURN TIME & SPACING
Burn in 2–4 hour sessions so the melt pool reaches the edges without overheating the jar.
Always allow the jar to cool fully before moving or relighting.
For the final burn, discontinue use when +/- 1cm of wax remains to protect surfaces from heat.
EXTINGUISHING (GENTLY DOES IT)
Snuffers are best (less smoke, less wick disturbance)
If you blow it out, do so gently and avoid splashing wax
Re-centre the wick while the wax is still warm, if needed
SAFETY FIRST (ALWAYS)
Never leave a burning candle unattended
Keep away from children & pets
Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time
Keep matches and debris out of the wax
Do not use if the jar is cracked or damaged
TROUBLESHOOTING & QUICK FIXES
Tunnelling (wax walls around the sides)
- Let it burn longer (up to 4hrs) to catch up
- Use a wick trimmer to keep the flame tidy
- If it persists, gently wrap foil around the top (leaving an opening above the flame) for one burn to help heat the edges—remove carefully
Mushrooming (bulb on the wick tip)
- Trim to 1cm before each burn
- Avoid very long burn sessions
Soot or smoking
- Wick is likely too long or in a draft
- Extinguish, trim to 1cm, move away from airflow, and relight
Weak scent throw
- Ensure a full melt pool forms; small rooms hold fragrance better
- Avoid burning next to open windows or fans that disperse scent

CLEANING AND REUSING YOUR JAR
When +/-1cm of wax remains, it’s time to retire the candle.
How to clean:
Fill the jar with warm (not boiling) water.
Let it sit for a few minutes — the heat will soften any remaining wax.
Pour out the water and wipe clean with a soft cloth.
Reuse ideas:
- Bud vase or mini propagator
- Desk pen pot or makeup brush holder
- Cotton pads or match striker jar
Reusing extends the life of your reusable white glass and keeps things sustainable.
FAQs
How long does one candle last?
With proper care, 40+ hours per 220g candle.
Why is trimming the wick so important?
A 1cm wick prevents soot, keeps the flame controlled, and helps the candle last longer.
Can I burn it for more than 4 hours?
We don’t recommend it. Long sessions can overheat the jar and reduce overall burn quality.
Are your candles vegan?
Yes, our soy wax is vegan and GMO-free, and we use cotton wicks.
When will I get my order?
We will work quickly to ship your order as soon as possible. Once your order has shipped, you will receive an email with further information. Delivery times vary depending on your location.
